What would London Fashion Week be without the presence of the excellent Jonathan Anderson? The designer known for transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary chose, for his JW Anderson Spring-Summer 2025 show, to invest in Old Billingsgate located on the Thames. He decided to focus on four materials: cashmere, leather, silk, and sequins. A bold choice for the creator with a boundless imagination: With my team, we tried to figure out how to start with these materials and duplicate them in various ways so that they look completely different. It's something I had never done. It's a way to make them versatile, Jonathan Anderson confided at the end of his show. • Thus, a simple vibrant blue silk dress features a cashmere-effect print or a trompe-l'oeil zipper, an oversized deconstructed knit sweater clashes with silky trousers, and thousands of candy-pink sequins adorn a dress with silk details. For him, using these four materials was a revelation and an endless medium that allowed him to head in one single chosen design direction. More minimalist, this collection focuses on material play and volumes, softer than what we are used to seeing in Jonathan Anderson's creations. Delicious oddities and colorful details are absent from the collection. Yet, the clothes do not lose any of their subversive character. • I wanted to infuse this wardrobe with a slightly girly aesthetic. When I look at my sister, who goes out in London with her friends, they all possess this very feminine allure combined with a certain toughness, characteristic of their independence, says the designer. A concept that translates through the image of the tutu, revisited with leather, giving this somewhat naive piece a more rock and assured look. • The show ended with a simple three-hole silk dress designed as a blank page on which was inscribed a text on design from a work by English art critic Clive Bell.
