PRINSESSTÅRTA RECIPE | Swedish Princess Cake Recipe • Now let me introduce you to the mother of Swedish Cakes: the Prinsesstårta. Thanks to Julia, my friend from Sweden, we made this glorious Swedish layer cake - bright green and full of custard goodness, berries, marzipan, and a whole lotta whipped cream! Yep, it's loaded with calories. Haha! 😅 The original recipe first appeared in the 1948 Prinsessornas Kokbok cookbook, which was published by Jenny Åkerström, a teacher of the three daughters of Prince Carl, the brother of King Gustav V. The cake was originally called grön tårta (green cake), but was given the name prinsesstårta or princess cake because the princesses were said to have been especially fond of the cake. If you colour the cake differently. e.g. blue it is called prinstårta (prince cake) and operatårta (opera cake) for red or pink marzipan.
