I randomly had this idea to put together a special holiday-themed Sinnoh track for Christmas this year. I love the atmosphere of snow created in Diamond Pearl - exiting Mt. Coronet to be greeted with the snowy atmosphere of Route 216 was an incredible feeling as a kid! I love the snow in real life too... at least, seeing it, haha, not a fan of driving in it! • You might be saying wait Carlos, you've already done a cover of the Lake Theme! Yes, I have! However, lately, I've been wanting to try something new with these arrangements! This arrangement is sort of a themed arrangement of the Lake Theme - my vision was to transform the Lake Theme into something that would sound like it would play at Lake Acuity, so I went for a wintry, snowy sort of vibe! Definitely appropriate for the season. I'd be interested in trying this approach with another arrangement of the Lake Theme sometime in the future that's more styled for Lake Valor! (My first Lake Theme arrangement feels most like Lake Verity to me, haha). What does this mean for the Year of Sinnoh and the eventual album? There's no limit to the cool things that can be created :) • I had the wonderful pleasure of having Samantha Ballard and Julia Henderson join me on this new cover! I've been doing quite a bit of harp writing lately for some school stuff as well as some other Sinnoh arrangements (to come in the future!), and I thought that this song, which is right in the middle on the jazz - classical spectrum of music, would really benefit from some harp! I also decided to bring Julia on board after getting some ideas for some choral stuff, along with some Reich-esque dodododododo's. I did quite a bit of research for this song with music that I don't normally dig into, including Debussy's The Snow is Dancing from Children's Corner, Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun , and Reich's Music for 18 Musicians. These influences are definitely outside of my normal listening patterns, but they were so helpful for creating this atmosphere and vibe I wanted!
