The Kwaiken, with its clean lines and Japanese influence, has been all the rage here in the first half of 2016, and Boker Plus has teamed with knifemaker Lucas Burnley to put out a really elegant, tactical take on the design. • Boker's Kwaiken line is host to both folders and flippers, with this latest version sporting the flipper. I've always preferred flippers so those happen to be my favorites out of the selection. They make great use of an IKBS pivot system, which allows for a ridiculously responsive and snappy action, despite the low profile of the flipper tab. For my money its one of the best deployment actions in Boker's line-up. • Handle scales here are smooth, polished G10, very similar to the version with carbon fiber scales, but at a lower price point. The straight, simple shape of the handle isn't the most comfortable you will ever hold, but there are zero hotspots and it gives you a good feeling of control. • As with all models except for the mini, you're looking at a 3.5 blade, this time with a satin finish. The finish style is where you get the coolest variety in the Kwaiken line, as in addition to the satin there are stonewash, bead-blast stonewash, and black blade variations. The flippers all boast VG-10 stainless steel, while the folders use AUS-8. Regardless of the model, all Boker Kwaikens use a sturdy liner lock to keep the blade extended during use. You get some good variety in the handle scales also, as in addition to the carbon fiber and black G10 they offer titanium, micarta, and orange G10 scales. • All-in-all, Lucas Burnley's take on the Kwaiken is fierce and streamlined, and Boker has done their part when it comes to the rugged build and outstanding variety.
