Directly in front of the grave pit of the shaman of Bad Dürrenberg, another pit was discovered during modern excavations by the State Office for Heritage Management and Archaeology Saxony-Anhalt. This had been made about 600 years after the burial. It was recovered in the block and examined in the workshops of the State Museum under laboratory conditions. A surprising discovery was made: the pit contained two masks made of deer antlers. Is there a possible connection between the pit with the masks and the burial pit of the shaman?
