Acclaimed young composer Mohammed Fairouz explains that the movements in his fourth symphony, “In the Shadow of No Towers,” are based on panels from the graphic novel of the same title about post-9/11 America by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Art Spiegelman. • Reach Out Kansas Inc. commissioned the symphony for the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble, directed by Paul W. Popiel. • The symphony’s world premiere was March 26, 2013, in Carnegie Hall, Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage. The Kansas premiere was April 2, 2013, at KU’s Lied Center.
