Nothing inherently heroic about his polonaise--Chopin's longtime romance once penned un symbole héroïque after hearing op.53 for the first time. She wasn't suggesting that the polonaise itself was heroic: she wrote that the French Revolution needed the inspiration, strength, and vigour of spirit that she experienced while listening to this polonaise--it was the French Revolution that needed heroism and she suggested that op.53 should become the inspirational symbol of that revolution. It didn't...but, I respect George Sand and the subsequent musicological sobriquet: héroïque. She was passionate about her convictions and the need for change; I appreciate her strength and character. • I modified my approach to bring out more of the attributes George Sand described upon her first hearing of this polonaise: inspiration, strength, and vigour! It may be interesting compare the changes from my earlier interpretation of this work:    • Chopin: Polonaise in A-flat major, op...  . • • composer: Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) • title: Polonaise in A-flat major, op.53 • sobriquet: Polonaise héroïque • -translation: Heroic Polonaise • -translation: 英雄ポロネーズ • composed: 1842 • dedicated: Auguste Léo • pianist: Kana Mimaki • piano technician: Don Mannino • piano: Shigeru Kawai EX-L (9'1 ) • venue: Fort Bend Music Center • event: live performance • • On December 6, 2013 I gave a solo piano recital at the Fort Bend Music Center on the new Shigeru Kawai EX-L concert piano; Polonaise héroïque is an excerpt of that live performance.
