In an interview with Quaker abolitionist female speaker Angelina Grimké, a former member of the slave-holding class of South Carolina, Angelina turns against her upper class background as she speaks of the book she co-authored with her husband, Theodore Weld, American Slavery as It Is in 1839. She doesn't hold back on the graphics in chapters on floggings, maimings, torture, and brandings. She became the first female speaker to lecture in front of both men and women breaking all conventional rules of the time. • For more info, contact Abolition News Network at [email protected] • Like us on Facebook: • / abolitionnews • Visit our website: • http://abolitionnewsnetwork.org/
