Create a perfect song sheet with Sibelius, works also with the free Sibelius First • Maarten van der Grinten helps you in 15 steps to create a cool song sheet with the use of the template he made. You can download it down here. • This is a brief introduction to the use of Sibelius, using its free lite version Sibelius First, but everything works fine in all Sibelius versions. • We are avoiding too much work with the mouse/touch pad to prevent you from Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). • Download and install Sibelius First through this link • http://bit.ly/Sibelius1st • Template (Start File) for Sibelius and Sibelius First • http://bit.ly/sibelius-startfile • • Abstract: • 1. Open the Start File Sibelius (start always from here, don't go through the option New Score ) and save your song as: ⇧⌘S name the song (5:26) • 2. Does the song have an upbeat (anacrusa) or not. If not ⌘⌫ (6:12) • 3. K Select key and click in beginning of the first bar (6:40) • 4. T Select time signature and click in the beginning of the first bar (6:56) • 5. Double click on title, ⇪ type title (all capitals) (7:31) • 6. Double click on composer and type name composer/lyricist (7:58) • 7. Double click on tempo to edit (8:37) • 8. Note input: several ways. (9:20) • With mouse clicks.Press the N. • With the keyboard. (Faster and better again rsi. ) • Press the N again ( or Esc) • Construct 1st part of the phrase. Analyse the rhythmic repetitions then select the rhythmic cel to repeat and press R. Correct the notes. • 9.One part of the phrase ready add chords.(14:04) • Double click the chord symbol or use ⌘K and typ. A space will bring you to a new chord . ⇥ to next bar. • Type, a b c d e f g ( no need for capitals) for roots, # for sharp, b for flat, dim for diminished, halfdim for half diminished, ^ for major 7, / for slash chords • 10. Chords ready select the whole A. (16:10) • ( click on first bar hold shift click on bar 8) , press R. The whole A will be repeated in A2. • For the B part see if there are rhythmic cells you could copy. Select and copy-paste. (⌘C-⌘V) • Or press the R two times more after the first repeat. • 11. Adjust the melody and the chords in the B and A3. Use ⇧T to transpose selection, if needed. (21:49) • 12. Make sure the song structure is visible in the number of bars per stave. • Often this is four. You can use the Layout section of the ribbon ( quite limited in First). • 13. Clean up and delete unused things of the template. (27:20) • Reorder/delete the coda and segno signs. • Put in any other repeat signs, edit special bar lines by selecting a bar line then to the ribbon ‘Notations' -Barlines. • 14. Lyrics. Select the first note. Press ⌘L and you can typ. (31:47) • Press an extra space on ties. • Or copy the lyrics from internet. • And ⌘V ⌘V ⌘V etc. Be aware: on the ties press on space before the next ⌘V. • Et voilá! Faster lyric input than you could dream of. • 15. Save ⌘S and then go to the File section in the ribbon and choose Print. (37:00) • In print option window select Standard Os print dialog, save it as Pdf. • Ultimate users: Export PDF ⇧⌘X • Some extra additions you might need: • -Adding a stave: • Go to the add instrument in the ribbon. Key command I. • Select an instrument and click on Add to score.
