Shop bike maintenance: https://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike... • Here are our top electric bike maintenance tips to make sure your electric bike and its components will keep on going for as long as possible. [Halfords. We Fit. We Service. We Repair.] • There’s nothing complicated about maintaining an e-bike. • Other than the battery, they’re not much different from a mechanical bike. • To follow this guide, you’ll need: • Cleaning fluid • Lubricant • Tools • A soft cloth • And a Pump • Maintaining the correct tyre pressure makes a big difference to how much energy you’ll need to expend on your ride. • Low pressures make your e-bike feel sluggish. • Your tyres will also age quicker and be more at risk of getting a puncture. So pump your tyres up if they’re low. • To clean your e-bike, first make sure the battery and motor are switched off. • Start by degreasing the drivetrain. This stops dirt and oil from spreading to the rest of the bike. • High-pressure sprays can remove grease and force water and dirt into the internals. So hand-wash using bicycle-specific cleaners. • Once the e-bike is dry… give it a polish to protect it and make it easier to clean in future. • Then lubricate the chain. It will last longer and squeak less if you do. Use a ‘wet lube’ in winter and ‘dry lube’ in the spring and summer. Before you lubricate your chain…make sure it’s clean. If you lubricate a dirty chain you’ll end up creating a nasty grinding paste. Also, make sure no lubricant finds its way to the brakes as it can make them slippy. • Finally, clean your disc brakes – always use a disc brake cleaner as they can fade when soaked with soapy water. There’s just a couple of things to remember to keep your battery in tip-top shape. Cold affects the battery’s performance….so if you’re not going to use it in winter… keep it inside at room temperature and out of sunlight. You’ve also got to regularly charge an e-bike battery. Batteries that are not maintained over long periods of time risk going into safe-mode. To avoid this, make sure you charge your battery at regular intervals. • If you do have any problems with the battery or any of the bike’s components, we offer spares and replacements on all our e-bikes. You’ll also find trained e-bike technicians in-store. • Motors tend to look after themselves, and you certainly don’t want to take them apart yourself. But what you can do is keep the motor housing clean… and keep an eye out for any wear and tear. • If you feel something’s not quite right… take it into your local Halfords for a free bike check. • So there you have it. …Looking after an e-bike isn’t difficult. We also offer a range of different cycle service packages.. to help you keep your e-bike in great shape. • Discover more about our full range of e-bikes and services on our website… or pop into store where a colleague will be be happy to help.
