Short black and white silent film showing in detail the various parts of a teleprinter in action. Teleprinters were invented in order to send and receive messages without the need for operators trained in the use of Morse code. A system of two teleprinters, with one operator trained to use a typewriter, replaced two trained Morse code operators. The teleprinter system improved message speed and delivery time, making it possible for messages to be flashed across a country with little manual intervention firstly receiving a message and then printing it out. The film focuses on each aspect of the electronic device, concluding by producing the message '˜Time for all good men to come to the aid of the party'. • For this film, and several others in our collection, we have tried to contact any known copyright holders and believe it to be an orphan work.
