Illinois Central 4-8-2 #2500 is preserved at Centralia, Illinois, and is one of only three large I.C. locomotives to survive today. • James Adams of Centralia was one of the men who were instrumental in preserving the locomotive. On May 10, 2018, his 105th birthday was celebrated by running compressed air to the whistle of #2500. • Climbing into the cab and taking his place in the engineer's seat, Mr. Adams grabbed the whistle chord and the whistle of #2500 was heard for the first time since 1957!
