Cold start delete is an effective solution for the rough idle and misfire fault codes of BMW E9x M3s on the S65 engine. During the cold start procedure, the engine speed and fuel consumption are increased, resulting in louder exhaust noise. The fluctuation in engine speed, which seems like an unusual behavior to most car owners, is often observed. In addition to the fluctuating engine speed, misfire fault codes and a check engine light (CEL/MIL) are often generated. In such case, the fault codes are; • 2B42 DME: Misfire impairing exhaust emission, cylinder 1 • 2B43 DME: Misfire impairing exhaust emission, cylinder 2 • 2B44 DME: Misfire impairing exhaust emission, cylinder 3 • 2B45 DME: Misfire impairing exhaust emission, cylinder 4 • 2B46 DME: Misfire impairing exhaust emission, cylinder 5 • 2B47 DME: Misfire impairing exhaust emission, cylinder 6 • 2B48 DME: Misfire impairing exhaust emission, cylinder 7 • 2B49 DME: Misfire impairing exhaust emission, cylinder 8 • 2B4E DME: Misfire impairing exhaust emission, several cylinders • It is not clear how the cold start process is related to the misfire codes. After all, the engine still runs normally. After some time the CEL/MIL will be automatically cleared but they will randomly come back as the result of the cold start process. • The cold start process can be removed without changing the performance of the car. Tuning the DME is required. In this video, I use an OBDII-USB cable to connect the car to a Windows laptop. The software tools are MSS6X Flasher and MSS60 Binary Modification Tool.
