This tutorial shows how to make a double dovetail, a traditional Japanese wood joint. Some Japanese wood joints seem impossible to make at first sight - the double dovetail being one of them. As the tenon broadens both lengthwise and crosswise, it cannot be assembled in the »European way«. • Its ingenious design means the double dovetail can take the strain under tension and can only be disassembled at a specific angle. It is mainly used in carpentry and for cabinets with blind panels. • DICTUM courses on this subject: • https://www.dictum.com/en/search/inde... • This DICTUM tutorial shows step by step how to produce this wood joint using Japanese tools: • Marking the joint with a Japanese carpenters’ square (»Sashigane«) • Sawing the tenon using Japanese saws • Chiselling the mortise using a Japanese chisel (»Nomi«) • Tools used: • Shinwa® Square »Sashigane«, 300 mm (No. 717132) • https://www.dictum.com/en/search?sSea... • Dozuki Universal® 240 (No. 712808) • https://www.dictum.com/en/search?sSea... • 712808 • Hattori® Chisels (»Nomi«) • https://www.dictum.com/en/search?sSea... • Smoothing Plane »Kanetomo Kanna«, blade width 50 mm (No. 717018) • https://www.dictum.com/en/search?sSea... • All the tools used are available from our DICTUM retail shops or online: https://www.dictum.com • Credits • Music »Emerge« by Alex under CC Attribution (3.0) @ http://ccmixter.org/files/AlexBeroza/...
