And this tutorial will show you how to duplicate a layer through the menu options and by using a keyboard shortcut. So in my timeline, there's a layer named planet one. If I click the layer, you'll notice now it's highlighted showing that it is selected. Go to the top of after effects, click edit, and then scroll down to find duplicate. You'll see, there's a new layer in your composition panel. Also after effects has done us a favor by sequencing the layer automatically after effects recognized that the layer name had a one at the end of its name. And when the layer was duplicated, the next layer became planet too. So there you go. Now, you know how to duplicate a layer, but maybe you want to move a little quicker, honestly, going up to the edit menu every time you want to duplicate a layer will become tedious. • Ryan Plummer (00:49): So instead of using the edit menu, we'll use the keyboard shortcut command D with my layer selected I'll press command on a Mac or control on a PC. And while holding down that key, I'll press the letter D and easy way to remember this key combination is D for duplicate command duplicate. As you can see, this is much faster than using the edit menu every time we want to duplicate layer, but what about duplicating multiple layers? The process is basically the same. You should start to draw a box on your screen, and as we move the box over our layers, they'll start to become highlighted, indicating that they are going to be selected. Once I have the layer selected, I can use the hot key command D and there you go.
