He gives a quick rundown on how our eyes work. In short-sightedness, the light rays converge in the front of the retina with near objects appearing clear but distant objects appearing blurry. In long-sightedness, the light rays converge at the back of the retina where distance objects appear clear but near objects appear blurry. Presbyopia (age-related long-sightedness) usually occurs from around 40 years old for most people. The flexibility of the lens to see near objects is lost as one ages. • LASIK (Laser In Situ Keratomileusis) is a type of laser refractive surgery that reshapes the cornea so that light rays can converge on the retina. This is used to treat short-sightedness and long-sightedness. • Although LASIK is almost synonymous with laser vision correction, it is not the only type of laser refractive surgery available. Other options include PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) and SMILE (Small Incision Lenticular Extraction) and ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery. • Learn more about treatments offered by NUH LASIK Centre • https://www.nuh.com.sg/Health-Informa... • 00:00 - Introduction • 00:17 - How our eyes work • 00:41 - About short-sightedness • 00:51 - About long-sightedness • 01:25 - About presbyopia/lao hua • 02:01 - About LASIK • 02:22 - About PRK SMILE • 02:26 - About ICL surgery • Follow NUH on social media: • Subscribe to NUH's Youtube channel and visit us at https://www.nuh.com.sg • Facebook:   / nationaluniversityhospital   • Instagram:   / nuhig   • LinkedIn:   / national-university-hospital   • About National University Hospital (NUH) (Singapore): • NUH is Singapore's major tertiary hospital and referral centre with over 50 medical, surgical and dental specialties.
