Listen to it here: • • 2WEI - Catapult (Official Wonder Wom... • https://music.apple.com/ca/album/cata... • CREATOR NOTES: • This trailer was made entirely using in-game footage from the Half-Life 2: Update version of the game, developed by Filip Victor, with the exception of the old 2004 Valve launch titles at the very beginning of the video. Nvidia Shadowplay was used to record the gameplay, and Davinci Resolve was used for editing. GCFScape was used to extract voicelines and sound effects from the game files. • I have wanted to make something like this for years. The main inspiration is the story of Half-Life 2 itself, and how epic and adventurous it actually is underneath all the subtlety and in-the-moment gameplay. One day, I heard the song Catapult by 2WEI featured in the Wonder Woman (2017) movie trailer and immediately fell in love with it. The song itself fit perfectly with the narrative of Half-Life 2, at least in my mind. Over the course of the next few years, I would occasionally think about how exactly I would bring this video to fruition, and storyboarded every major beat in my head. To be perfectly honest, I could not think of ideas without having the amazing trailer created by @SkipPrime pop into my thoughts. That, to me, is the definition of a perfect Half-Life tribute trailer and it is still one of my favourite videos on Youtube. The note of make HL2 story trailer remained on my office's whiteboard for years, and while I never forgot about it and how much I wanted to make it, my professional and personal life took over and before I knew it, whisked me away from the old days of making videos and flexing my creative muscle on my channel. • But...something is different this year. Half-Life 2 turns 20, and I'll be damned if I didn't make SOMETHING to celebrate it. I didn't even care if it wasn't what all viewers would want to see (though that is certainly a big plus), all that mattered to me was creating something, anything, that would allow me to say to myself, I did this for my favourite game, because I love it and I want to show it appreciation . • So, over the course of a grueling week, I worked on the video that you now see here. And while I did it out of a selfish need to give something back to the game that defined my childhood, I do hope that you enjoy it as well, as it is meant as a celebration of all things beautiful about Half-Life. • And hey, at the very least - at least I can finally scratch that note off my whiteboard :)
