VE Day anniversary remembering the celebrations

It was a day of elation for millions of Britons, of crowds surging to see the king and queen, stolen kisses in Trafalgar Square and bonfires lighting up an evening sky clear of danger. • Others did not celebrate VE Day at all, on May 8, 1945, because they were still fighting the Japanese or could not get dead loved ones out of their heads.
