The Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery, built and run by the Italian Ngo EMERGENCY in Khartoum (Sudan), is one of the 2013 Aga Khan Award for Architecture winners! ## • The Salam Centre for Cardiac Surgery is the only free-of-charge, specialised facility of this kind in Africa. EMERGENCY Ngo offers free, high-quality surgical care to children and adults suffering from acquired or congenital heart diseases. • The Salam Centre is also the hub of the Regional Programme for Paediatrics and Cardiac Surgery, which EMERGENCY is creating in Africa thanks to a network of Paediatric centres.
