This video shows how to make a cat ladder / tree out of 2x4s and plywood. • When you are done, wrap some pieces of carpet around the verticals between each rung and screw it in place with short wood screws. You cat will love it. • If you want to tip me or donate funds to help me make more videos, click the link below. You may need to change some of the measurements to fit your situation. • Also to keep the video short, I am not going to explain basic carpentry concepts and safety, so you will need to search the web if you need that kind of help. • I used a strong neodymium magnet to find the screws holding the sheetrock to the studs. • To make a ladder just like the one in this video, you will need: • 4 - 2x4 studs(each stud is about 92 inches long) • Half sheet of plywood (about 1/2 inch thick) • At lease 16 - 3 inch wood screws (screws longer than 3 inches will stick out of the wood) • At lease 12 - 1 5/8 inch wood screws (or longer) • 4 screws or anchor devices to attach the ladder to the wall • This is just the script I read from to make the video. You can copy and print it as a guide when making your ladder. You can ignore the number in front of each line. • 110. First, locate studs to attach the ladder to. Be sure to check both sides of the wall for wiring and plumbing so you don't hit them when drilling. • 115. The 1st and 3rd steps will be the wall attachment steps: • 120. Since most houses, including mine, have studs 16 inches apart, I am making the wall attachment boards 20 inches wide to allow a little extra to prevent splitting. • 125. Cut 2 - 2x4s 20 inch long. These will be the boards attached to the wall. • 130. Drill holes in both boards 2 inches from each end for the screws going into each wall stud. • 135. Also, drill holes in both boards 4 inches from each end for the screws to attach the wall boards to the boards used to hold the ladder off of the wall. • 140. Cut 4 - 2x4s 11 1/2 inch long. These standoff boards will attach the ladder to the wall boards. • 145. Drill holes 1 3/4 inches from one end of each stand off for the screws used to attach the standoff to the ladder. • 150. Align the opposite end of the standoff boards with the inner holes on the wall boards and attach with screws as you see here. You can predrill the standoffs to help prevent splitting. • 155. Securely attach the wall boards to the wall at 30 and 66 inches high. • 158. The 2nd and 4th steps will extend out from the ladder: • 160. Cut 4 - 2x4s 19 inches long. • 165. Predrill holes 2 inches from each end. • 170. Screw the boards to the poles 48 and 84 inches from the bottom of the poles to the top of the rungs. • 175. Place rungs on both sides of the ladder. • 178 If you don't have a tall ladder, it may be easier for you to skip ahead to make and install the top shelf now while the ladder is laying on the ground. • 180 Hold the ladder in place and screw the ladder to the standoffs. If you are installing the ladder over carpet, be sure to press down on the ladder to compress the carpet while you attach the standoffs. • 185 So far, this is what the ladder should look like. Next we will attach the platforms. • Install the shelves: • 190. For the 1st and 3rd shelves, cut 2 piece of plywood 13 x 21 inches • 195. Then cut notches to leave a 9.5 platform in the rear and 13.5 inches between the poles. • 200. Drill holes in each side 4.5 inches from the sides and 7 inches from the rear. • 205. Put the shelves in place and attach with 2 screws. • 210. For the 2nd and 4th shelves, cut 2 pieces of plywood 16 x 21 inches • 215. Then cut notches to leave an 11 inch platform in the front and 13.5 inches between the poles. • 220. On the 2nd shelf, remove the outside corners to prevent injuries. • 225. Drill holes in each side 2 inches from the sides and 1 inch from the rear. • 230. Also, drill holes in each side 2 inches from the sides and 1 inch from the rear. • 235. Put the shelves in place and attach with 4 screws. • 240 This is what the ladder looks like with all the shelves installed. • 250 If needed, put a treat on each shelf to entice the cat to climb. • ==Keywords=== • cat tree build toys diy how to build cat scratch play tower do it yourself ladder tree steps homemade home made make install quick solution • Fixpro256 f1i1x1p1r1o1 • HowToAutoRepair h1t1a1r1
