Reseda odorata, the Mignonette (also called Common Mignonette or Garden Mignonette), is a plant native to the Mediterranean basin. It belongs to the family Resedaceae in the order Brassicales, therefore is a relative of broccoli, cauliflower and allies, but unlike the latter, the Mignonette is not cultivated for edible purposes, but exclusively for as ornamental plant; this might at first seem strange, considering the appearance of the plant is nothing special: the foliage does not look particularly appealing and seems actually like some kind of weed, and even the flowers are small and do not show any bright colour, however I read that what made this species a favourite among garden plants throughout history, is the exquisite fragrance. • According to some information I found on the internet, Napoleon brought some seeds of the Mignonette from Egypt to Paris for his beloved Josephine, and she absolutely loved it for its scent. • Even Edward Augustus Bowles, one of the most famous British horticulturalists, liked to put mignonette in a cut glass bowl, for the brightening effect of its flowers. • Of course, due to my love for fragrant flowers, I decided to try this species for my collection of fragrant plants, ordering some seeds at Chiltern Seeds ( https://www.chilternseeds.co.uk/ ). This video is about my experience with Reseda odorata, where I review its biology, cultivation requirements, and of course my opinion about its fragrance. • There are not many sources about this species, but I found particularly useful this website where different people who cultivated this plant share their different experience with this species • https://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/... • I hope that you enjoyed the video, and if you liked it and you would like to support my YouTube garden channel and have regular updates, it would be great if you would subscribe to my channel by clicking on the button subscribe .
