SAU's Violin Celebration X, featuring 400 Suzuki Violinists at Abravanel Hall (10/9/21). This culturally rich music takes us to Belgium! This fun Suzuki piece from book 8 has often been referred to as a playful Tom Jerry - Friendly Mischief Mayhem. • Composer: A. Gretry (1741-1813) • Most of the composers who wrote our pieces tonight were immigrants and travelers. Grétry (GREH-Tree) was born in Belgium, a small country which at the time did not have much for an aspiring composer. He therefore immigrated to France to find career opportunities. Many composers found success in countries other than their birthplace, including Dvorak, Bartok, and Rachmaninoff. Others traveled for education. Taki traveled to study Western composition techniques, but frequently wrote about his beloved Japan. Debussy moved to Italy for a time to study Italian opera—and ended up deciding he didn’t like it much after all. Dr. Suzuki studied in Europe and even befriended Dr. Albert Einstein! • This cultural celebration was sponsored by the Suzuki Association of Utah (SAU) and supported many volunteers. Participants include Suzuki violin students and teachers from Ogden to Provo (and beyond). Thanks to all the teachers, students, parents, and professionals who helped create this dynamic rendition of Tambourin. • Accompanist: Jayne Galloway • Visual Slideshow: Issac Goeckeritz • Subscribe to ‪@SuzukiMusicUtah‬ • Subscribe to ‪@cathybutlermusic‬ • #violin #suzuki #music #cultural #celebration #concert
