A playthrough of Sega's 1990 sports game for the Sega Master System, Summer Games. • Summer Games, originally released in 1984 for 8-bit computers, was the very first game in Epyx's Games series. This PAL-exclusive Master System port was very late to the party, but it is a solid little multi-player title. • Like Winter Games, the Master System version of Summer Games has shed some content in the move from the Commodore 64. Whereas the original game had nine events, just five appear here: • Pole Vault 1:50 • 100M Dash 3:24 • Gymnastics 4:32 • Platform Diving 5:19 • 100M Freestyle 7:29 • They're all simple and easy to play. The 100M Dash and Freestyle events are the button mashers, and the others require just a couple well-timed button presses - if World Games and California Games frustrated you, you'll probably appreciate the simplicity of the gameplay here. If anything, it's a bit too easy. • The graphics are cleaner and more colorful than the C64 version's, and I liked the hilarious character sprites with the huge eyes. The music is good, too, especially for a Master System game. • Summer Games is a fun, momentary distraction. I doubt I would've been satisfied if I had paid full price for it in 1990 - it's sorely lacking in content - but that's probably not much of an issue for someone playing it in 2021. • _____________ • No cheats were used during the recording of this video. • • NintendoComplete (http://www.nintendocomplete.com/) punches you in the face with in-depth reviews, screenshot archives, and music from classic 8-bit NES games!
