National anthems of the United States of America (USA), Great Britain/Commonwealth, France (Marseillaise) and Germany • The occasion is the ceremony marking the 73rd anniversary of the end of the Berlin blockade on the airlift square at the former Tempelhof airport. The Soviet Union sealed off the western sectors of Berlin from June 24, 1948 to May 12, 1949 and wanted to starve this area of the divided city. As a countermeasure, the airlift was set up, which brought all everyday goods from West Germany to West Berlin, from chocolate to coal. The air forces of the USA, Great Britain including the Commonwealth countries of South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and France were involved.
