Subscribers to this YouTube Channel who complete the entire video series will be invited to take a certification test to receive a Certificate of Completion. • Step 3: Calculate the Notary Fee • Duration: 14:08 • The objective of Step 3 in the notarization process is to explain what the current state-approved notary fee is in the State of Alabama, and how notaries should calculate it. • 1. The notary fee increased from $5 to $10 per notarial act on 9/1/2023. • 2. Charging a notary fee is optional. • 3. Charging signers more than the state-approved notary fee is a crime (Class C Misdemeanor). • 4. Employees of the state, county municipality cannot charge notary fees. • 5. The notary certificate is what helps the notary decide what the total notary fee should be. • 6. Notary fees should be recorded in the Notary Journal. • 7. Notary Fees should be itemized on a receipt. • 8. Fees for travel, printing and other services are not discussed in this video. • 9. If the notary doesn't travel to meet the signer, no travel fee should be charged. • 10. If the signer drives to the notary's office, the notary should not charge a convenience or administrative fee. • 11.
