I visited a farm that was growing different varieties of jatropha near Arcadia, Florida. The farmer was growing close to 50 acres and was gradually expanding to 100 acres of jatropha varieties from India, Malaysia, South America, and Africa. He was buying a majority of his seeds from the internet. • You can hear the farmer talk about many aspects of growing jatropha including: • -Surviving freezes • -Best methods of planting the jatropha • -Irrigation techniques • -Spacing requirements and options • -Yields • -Types of jatropha planted • -Effects of irrigation and not irrigating the jatropha • The amount of jatropha planted will create several thousand gallons of jatropha oil, which is planned to be turned into biodiesel to help offset rising fuel costs on the large farm. These jatropha seen in the video were planted in 2009, and have survived two winters already, making them very cold hardy and cold resistant. • I will be uploading another video of the jatropha nuts and the oil • produced from the jatropha plants in this video. • I just published a book about my biodiesel work at University of Florida: https://www.amazon.com/Project-Univer... • Here is my DIY Solar and Wind book that was published on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1508... • Barnes and Noble Nook version of my DIY Solar and Wind Book: • http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/books...
