I can't say that I blame him, even though it was due to heart complications...maybe he fell out of love with all that's been going on, just like he fell out of love with the music industry when he walked away for good in 1985. • But he started his musical career in 1970 with the release of his debut album at age 32 (hell, my first full album wasn't released until I was 35). I mean, the man was still working his normal day job when his album dropped (and immediately went to the top of the charts), and kept that job for a while, even while he was being interviewed on top late night TV shows. Supremely-talented, unbelievably soulful, the pen-game of a master, the ability to bring anyone to tears (from sadness to happiness, and all in between), and left on top without a care of whether anyone wanted another album or offered big money for a tour. 15 years, then he hung it up at 47 and never looked back. • And 35 years after that, he made his final goodbye, a few days ago. • Lovely Day came out on this album, the year I was born. I love many of Bill Withers songs (well-known and lesser known B-sides, the heavy ones as well as the light ones), and this song covers many types of positive moments for me in my life (I love the pre-chorus with its chord change that takes you into an alternate happy space before resolving back into that triumphant chorus, with that 18-second sustained note he vocally held...2nd longest in music history, they say). • Bill was THAT artist...came in when he wanted to, left when he wanted to, did it his way and did nothing to please anyone except what felt right to him. No comeback because he didn't need one (despite the fact he would have probably sold out every show if he had), and then he just had his family and lived his damn life. The fact he gave us anything at all after that, like his documentary #StillBill, was more than enough...a bonus. • It's hard to be too sad at a well-lived life. Yes, he's gone and I wouldn't write all of this if he didn't mean something to me, but I'm happy for him and his transition. I'm happy he existed. • Thank you, Bill 🙏🏾...now rest; you did well! • Ahmed • _________________ • CREDITS: All the music you hear, AFTER the initial few seconds of the sample from the original song version, is all played by me as a new, original arrangement. So–minus Bill Withers' original vocals–the main drum programming/editing, the cymbals, the percussion, the bass, the strings, the horns woodwinds, the electric rhodes piano, the B3 Hammond organ, the entire new instrumental composition arrangement, editing/mixing/mastering was all played and done by me live via Logic Pro. I had this idea in my head for a long time but it took my musical skill level finally catching up to the intricacies of the arrangement in my thoughts, as well as the technology finally existing to isolate Bill's vocals for a DIY acapella track in order for me to finally let the world hear what had only been in my head all these years. Just FYI, in case any of you were wondering ;) • • #billwithers #remix #ahmedsirour #lovelyday #tribute #RIPBillWithers #inmemoriam #soulmusic #funk #funky #musicaltribute #dance #housemusic #dancemusic #ahmedsirourremix #billwitherstribute #alovelyday #inspirational #uplifting #positive #positivity
