It’s one of 3 primary cuts (ribeye, strip, filet mignon), and likely the most controversial. • It’s rare that you’ll find a steak aficionado or nerd (like me) who will say its their favorite cut, and most will even say its overrated. This is due to the lack of marbling flavor, and also the premium price tag. • However, I believe the filet mignon is the ultimate crowd pleaser. It will always be tender, and even the pickiest of eaters will enjoy it. • Its also a great steak if you want to experiment trying different levels of doneness. If you believe you only like “well-done” steaks, try a filet cooked to medium, and work your way down to rare. • Hint: Walk by the meat section every time you go to the store and get an idea of what the average price/lb filet mignon costs.
