Originally opened as a Gertz Department Store, in the 60s, which was the developer of what was originally known as Mid Island Plaza, then in became a Stern's in the mid 80s, and then after Stern's was bought by Federated, it eventually became a Macy's when Federated folded the Stern's division (which was a shame, I liked Stern's). I have many memories in this store as my family I often shopped here when I was growing up. Much hasn't been updated in this store. The Armor Traction elevators are all original, and the only modernized one appears to be not in use as all call fixtures have been removed. The Pelle escalators are also original and unfortunately are in very bad shape. mThe Macy's will close sometime in March. This could prove a fatal blow for the Broadway Commons, as the loss of income from rent and loss of foot traffic could lead to a large decline. Hicksville as we know is in a very steep decline and this could be the closure that sends it over the edge. I hope and pray this outcome doesn't happen. I would love to see a Boscov's open at this location, but given the rapidly growing problems in Hicksville it is doubtful. Hicksville could very well become the next Hempstead in a matter of years. • https://www.newsday.com/business/macy... • https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2020/01/... • https://patch.com/new-york/hicksville... • This rumor has been posted 6 months ago confirms the issues with homeless in the area. • https://www.thelayoff.com/t/10fWNL3B
