Stellar Blade has kicked up a bit of a sh*t storm last few weeks. Many worried prior to release that Stellar Blade would be censored for western gamers. When the developer of Stellar Blade, Shift Up, announced it would in no way be censored, the fans roared and chalked it up to a win in the culture war. On day 1 of the release of Stellar Blade proved actions are louder than words. Stellar Blade, a Sony Playstation exclusive, received an update. Sneaking inside Stellar Blade were multiple patches censoring outfits and toning down the gore within Stellar Blade. The only viable workaround to Sony Playstation of America's update is to have bought the physical copy and keep your PS5 offline. While people like Grummz and Kabrutus fight the good fight every day on Twitter (or X or Xwitter), this got me thinking about a different, yet adjacent fight...the physical media versus digital media rumble. Companies like Sony, Disney, Hulu, Criterion Channel, Netflix, Max, Apple, etc... have all ether edited scenes out of movies and TV shows, or worse, deleted purchases people thought they bought. These faceless companies, through shady deals or worse, DEI councils, have one thing to say about your digital media...you will own nothing and be happy.
