Japan is more than doubling the number of regions under enhanced COVID-19 curbs. The government has expanded its partial state of emergency to 18 more prefectures to contain the spread of Omicron. Restaurants and bars will be asked to close by 9pm and stop serving alcoholic beverages after 8pm. The measures will take effect from Thursday (Jan 27) and last about three weeks.
