I'm not sure why there is so much play in the rear end. Not sure if it's play in the spider gears or what. Or why there is crack sound. • • UPDATE: The noise you are hearing is the shims in the rear differential. The shims get worn out and get play in them causing the noise. The only way you can fix this is if you get a shim kit or you get new spider gears. Also worth noting that you CAN replace the spider gears yourself. You do NOT have to set the backlash on the ring gear because you do not have to remove that. Note these are the parts for my specific truck. They might be different for your vehicle, so double check before hand. Please do so at your own risk. I take no responsibility for what repairs you do or try to do. • If you enjoyed this video or found it helpful, please drop a like and subscribe to my channel for more videos on this type of stuff!! • Thanks and have a great day! • • Here are a few links for parts and supplies that I got off Amazon needed for this job: Affiliate links • Rear differential shims and bearing kit - 8.6 inch • https://amzn.to/3EFU3Bl • Rear differential cover - GM 10 bolt • https://amzn.to/3xNmD23 • My favorite creeper for working under my truck: • https://amzn.to/3k2nK5V • Drain pan: • https://amzn.to/3K6RYiX • Magnetic lights: • https://amzn.to/3ELQBVN • U joints with grease fittings - MOOG: • https://amzn.to/36CPXgG • Rear Diff Rebuild Kit • https://amzn.to/3K8P2T5 • Transmission mount and engine mount - (if parts are worn and have play they can cause a clunking noise) • https://amzn.to/3k4nbbT
