It defines the creative work that Cristobal has been doing in music for many years. And Athanor is the name of this album, the first to capture this concept, recorded at the First Jazz Days in Ajusco organized by the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional. The best way to capture this concept was to do it live, summoning the best elements to share with López their ideas and, above all, the pleasure of creating in the act. • So Athanor is also a meeting. In addition to Cristóbal composing and playing guitar, Fernando Toussaint on drums, Rodrigo Castelán on electric bass, Humberto Terán on recording and the entire audience that filled the hall on Thursday, November 16, 1989 to participate in what turned out to be a memorable date in the history of jazz, as well as a warm, pleasant gathering of friends. Athanor is then the exact combination of mastery, creativity and pleasure basically. • About the meaning of the name: • Athanor is immortal, deathless; a thing of the Greeks who spoke of Thanatos. If we look up Athanor in an encyclopedia of daily use, we will find that it is a tube where water runs. Chemists would define it as a stove that can maintain an even fire for a long time. We could conclude by speaking of Athanor as that deathless thing through which the vital liquid flows and the fire is maintained constantly and for a long time. • Some called it Athanar. In the great work of the alchemists, the matter is obtained and from there we start to think the stone, the final elixir, the one that cures by stripping the heart of poisons, giving back youth to the old, bringing the deaf to hear, making the blind see, the dumb to speak and the handicapped to walk. This philosopher's stone arises from the Athanor, the fire-giving tower, the three-part furnace. In the foreground, supporting it all, is the hearth. In the center an eye to watch what is happening and above topping the dome of reverberation; that is where the heat gathers so that the temperature never changes. Athanor is that deathless something through which the vital liquid flows and the fire is maintained constantly and for the lake. Three are the elements that form it and from there comes that which cures the ills of the spirit. • Source: https://viajealespaciovisceral.blogspot.co...
