What better way to get there than with a RAT-flavored distortion? The 1981 DRV has got to be my favorite distortion in this class. While its lineage is distinctly rodent, the DRV offers a smoother and cleaner approach to achieve gain. The aggression is all still there, just a little less rough around the edges. The bonus with the DRV is the preamp. When you run this thing totally clean or at an edge of breakup setting you get a warm and balanced tone.
