RARE OLDIES SOUNDIES WITH THE DE CASTRO SISTERS ! The DeCastro Sisters were a female singing group: they consisted of Peggy, Cherie and Babette DeCastro. (When Babette retired in 1958, a cousin, Olgita DeCastro Marino replaced her.) • In 1945, the DeCastro family moved to the United States from Cuba. The sisters became protegees of Carmen Miranda, and formed a singing trio in Miami, Florida. They had a style something like the then-popular Andrews Sisters, but with a Latin flavor. • The biggest hit single for the group was Teach Me Tonight, in 1954. The song hit #2 in the United States, and the follow-up, Boom Boom Boomerang . • Peggy, the eldest of the group, died 6 March 2004 of lung cancer at age 82. Olgita died on 14 February 2000 at age 65. • You can watch all my rare oldies soundies on : http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vb... or http://www.myspace.com/swingcocktail ! Many thanks , NICKY .
