When Achilles hid from the Trojan War

Achilles didn't go straight to Troy. There was a period before, when he hid himself from it, disguised on the Island of Skyros as a woman. • This wasn't his first choice of action of course, but the plan of his mother who was, eventually, able to persuade him after she'd practically dragged him there. This was because he had fallen in love (at first sight) with the king of Skyros' daughter, Deidamia. • He stayed there a while, farcically hidden in the court of King Lycomedes as the 'sister of Achilles'. • It wasn't until Calchas the prophet made such a ruckus about the need for Achilles that Diomedes and Odysseus set out to find him.
