This ship is located right in the middle of the Bristol Docks, I would recommend a walk around the docks anyway. And it looks spectacular, it is an amazing feat of engineering as well as having a very interesting history makes this ship a must when visiting Bristol. • So when this ship was built in 1843 it was the largest ship in the world thanks to its hull being built from iron rather than the usual wooden hulls at the time. The ship was designed by a man called Isambard Kingdom Brunel who is a very important figure in Bristol that ill be mentioning a lot in the video! It was a passenger steam ship and was the first to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1845 and later went on to serve as a warehouse ship in the Falkland Islands until it was sunk in 1937. And a full 33 years later it was resurfaced and brought all the way back to the drydock in Bristol where it was created, and it has been there ever since. • So, I would definitely recommend a visit to the SS Great Britain! It costs around £18 to go inside but it’s worth every penny and you won’t be disappointed. So, from here you can explore the docks and a few highlights that you may want to explore is the M Shed which is a very interesting museum that is only a 5-minute walk away from SS Great Britain. If you want food or shopping be sure to check out Wapping Wharf which is a selection of shipping containers turned into shops and restaurants. And if you’re a fan of Banksy’s work his ‘Girl with The Pearl Earring’ painting is very close to here! And just explore the amazing docks in general! And with that lets move on to the next point! • Clifton Suspension Bridge - • So my next thing to see would be the Clifton Suspension Bridge, built in 1864 based on the designs of Brunel (once again!) and sitting at 101 metres above the water this bridge is one epic sight to see! These videos were taken from the Clifton Observatory which gives you the best views over Bristol and the bridge. It’s a short 10 minute walk uphill to get here but at the top is a really nice park and I think the bridge is just such an iconic part of Bristol it’s a must see and the scale is quite breath taking when you see it, so I have to recommend it! • Bristol City Museum Art Gallery - • Next, we’re heading back right into the centre of the city for the Bristol City Museum Art Gallery. So, this museum is free to enter, and it has some really nice collections. There is a lot of natural history here as well as my personal favourite section on Egyptology with so many sarcophaguses and carvings. Also, a lot of Bristol’s history including artefacts from the romans and even prehistoric artefacts that were recovered from the areas surrounding Bristol. Lots of great artwork in the art galleries on the top floor as well make this place a great option. Also, being right in the centre of Bristol you can explore the city centre as well! • Bristol Cathedral - • And finally, a 5-minute walk from the museum is Bristol Cathedral. This is located next to the Bristol City Hall and it has some incredible architecture. It has a very gothic design and is packed with so much detail you’ll see something new every second, its surroundings also make it a great place to see on your walk through the centre of Bristol!
