Ducati have just announced a special limited edition Panigale V2 to commemorate Troy Bayliss’s first World Superbike title win, back in 2001 on the Ducati 996 R. Naturally that makes it a 20th anniversary edition, with Bayliss boasting an impressive record with Ducati, taking 52 victories, 94 podiums and three world titles, as well as winning in both MotoGP and WSBK races in the same year, during 2006. • European pricing from Italy will be $20,990 Euros arriving in September, $21,000 USD in the US, arriving October, while here in Australia we’ll have to wait till January 2022, with the price set to be just shy of $27,500 AUD. • The big eye catching feature is of course the livery, which is designed to pay homage to Troy Bayliss’s 2001 996 R, which had a fairly simple yet elegant design including the various graphics. The base red is of course retained, with the number 21 proudly carried, alongside the traditional green and while details, with just the shell branding retained compared to the race machine. • Granted the overall look of the base V2 is hugely different to the 996 R, and the livery is only inspired by the race winning machine, and by no means an attempt to recreate the old race livery on a modern machine, but it’s still eye catching, and typical of Ducati very very elegant. • Obviously if the 996 part of the 2001 bike was the main attraction then this new limited edition bike may not be quite as appealing, however there’s a couple of other standout features here. The bikes will be numbered with Troy Bayliss’s autograph found on the fuel tank. • More interestingly for the rev heads and track junkies will be the fitment of NIX30 Ohlins forks, as well as a TTX36 shock. Granted the Showa and Sachs combo on the standard V2 was already fully adjustable, but Ohlins has an appeal all its own. • The V2 Bayliss Edition will also be 3 kg lighter than the standard V2, at the kerb, while including sports grips, a carbon-fibre and titanium silencer outlet cover, special seat with #21 embroidered into it, and self-cleaning brake and clutch pumps with smoke grey reservoirs. • The Panigale V2 offers the Superquadro Desmodromic L-Twin powerplant, with a 955 cc capacity, and outputting 155 horsepower, as well as 104 newton metres of torque. Fueling is full ride by wire, with elliptical throttlebodies and dual injectors per cylinder. • It seems the V2 was the obvious choice for this limited edition machine because of this, despite the company now campaigning V4 machinery. • An Ohlins steering damper is fitted, rather than the Sachs unit seen on the standard V2. A lithium ion battery is also standard. • For those of us in Australia, you’re looking at just under $4500 on top of the regular V2 price, but still well under the price of entry for a new Panigale V4. • Images courtesy of Ducati Motorcycles, by Umberto Beia Giovanni De Sandre • Don't forget to subscribe and hit that notification bell! • https://motojournokris.com/youtube
