This video introduces thermal resistors (thermistors). Thermistors change their resistance with temperature, the hotter it gets the lower the resistance. It's important to remember that thermistors' resistance decreases as the temperature increases. • Thermistors are useful because they can act as a switch in a circuit to stop appliances overheating. As the temperature increases, the resistance decreases. If the circuit is set up correctly this resistance decrease will stop the current flowing round the circuit. • A thermistor is represented by a rectangle with a line like a sort of hockey stick through it • Thanks for watching, • Lewis • Relevant for GCSE Physics 9-1 in the following exam boards: • AQA (including Trilogy) • Edexcel • OCR A • OCR B • WJEC • CIE (Cambridge International Examinations) IGCSE (Higher only) • Edexcel International IGCSE • _____________________________________ • MY PHYSICS WEBSITES • Find even more videos organised by exam board and topic at: • GCSE Physics Online • ► https://www.gcsephysicsonline.com • A Level Physics Online • ► https://www.alevelphysicsonline.com • MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL • Your support in watching this video has been invaluable!
