Illinois watch restoration part 3 pivot filing and burnishing in the Jacot tool

In this video I file and burnish train wheel pivots for an ongoing project. I use a file / burnisher, in combination with the Jacot lathe, to remove wear from pivots and burnish them to a smooth, polished surface. I explain why we use the tool, talk about the purpose of the file and burnisher and burnisher maintenance, and demonstrate the practice of filing and burnishing. • There are a few other videos around YouTube that cover the Jacot tool in depth, with dramatically better camera work and good explanations in their own right. I include some links here. • Precision Horology: • How Do You Polish / Burnish A Watch T... • Grumpy's Watch Restorations: • What is a Jacot Tool and How To Use it? • Epping Forest Horology Centre: • Jacot Tool - Richard Edwards @ EFHC • I am also linking to a great text, generously translated by Lui, which gives very clear guidance on the Jacot tool. The Watchmaker, written by Laszlo Magyar, was the standard book in the Hungarian state-sponsored watchmaking school in years gone by - something similar to De Carle or Fried in UK and US schools. Thanks very much to Lui for his great work finding and translating this chapter. The link is here: https://www.watchrepairtalk.com/topic.... • As in everything else in horology, more important than watching others is reading (really!), then getting out your tools and making mistakes. Happy burnishing!
