Weber State University (WSU) - Automotive Technology Department - Transmission Lab. Allison 1000 MW7 6-Speed and M74 5-Speed 6-Speed Automatic Transmission Power flow. The Allison 1000 is built by Allison Transmissions, a General Motors owned company. This transmission is typically used in 2001 and newer Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Heavy-Duty C and K series pickup trucks with the Isuzu 6.6L Duramax engine. This transmission uses a simple planetary gear set to drive a Simpson planetary gear set (common sun gears). • The following summarizes the changes to the Allison 1000 over the years: • (2010 Uprate) MW7 - Strengthened to handle the higher torque capability of the 2011 model year Duramax LGH and LML engines. • 4th Generation MW7 - Added 6th gear and other software refinements in 2006. Used with the 2006 - 2010 LBZ, LLY, and LMM Duramax engines. • 3rd Generation M74 - Added Solenoid G to the valve body to modulate main pressure at an idle to quiet the oil pump and reduce engine idling loads. Used with 2004 - 2005 LB7 and LLY Duramax Engines as well as the 8.1L Big Block Chevrolet Engine. • 2nd Generation M74 - Valve body and case changes as well as software refinements to improve shift quality, shift timing, and shift speed. Added The Sound of Power VHS video to the glove box to explain why the Allison noises and clunks are good. Used with the 2002 - 2003 model years and the LB7 Duramax and 8.1L Big Block Engines. • 1st Generation M74 - The original Allison 1000 installed in the 2001 Chevrolet and GMC Sierra Trucks with the LB7 Duramax engine. • This video helps demonstrate NATEF Task A2.C.10. Diagnose transmission/transaxle gear reduction/multiplication concerns using driving, driven, and held member (power flow) principles. , a priority 2 task. • Download the Allison 1000 Power Flow Table here: http://www.weber.edu/wsuimages/automo... • http://www.weber.edu/automotive • This video was created and edited by John D.
