M.) östlich von La Chaux-de-Fonds (991 m ü. M.) bis Sonceboz (652 m ü. M.) und geht geologisch aus einer Synklinale hervor. Das Wort kommt von griech. «zu einander neigen» und bezeichnet den nach unten gerichteten Teil einer Falte, die durch Stauchung von Gesteinen unter seitlichem Druck entstanden ist. Das Gegenstück (Antiklinalen) stellen die Jurakämme der Montagne du Droit und des Chasseral nördlich bzw. südlich davon dar. Durch das Tal verkehren die Züge der Schweizerischen Bundesbahnen (SBB) von Biel/Bienne (437 m ü. M.) nach La Chaux-de-Fonds. • • Die Schüss (frz. La Suze), die durchs Tal fliesst, hat oberhalb von Biel/Bienne in den Jurakämmen zwei grosse Klusen geschaffen. Im unteren Teil des Tales befinden sich die Dörfer Cormoret (706 m ü. M.) und Courtelary (701 m ü. M.) mit dem Flughafen Aérodrome du Jura Sud. • • The Vallon de Saint-Imier in the Bernese Jura stretches from Renan (889 m above sea level) east of La Chaux-de-Fonds (991 m above sea level) up to Sonceboz (652 m above sea level) and geologically originates from a syncline. A syncline is the section of a layered fold that is compressed downwards. The counterpart is the Jura crests of the Montagne du Droit and the Chasseral north and south of it, which form anticlinals. The trains of the «SBB» (Schweizerische Bundesbahnen, Swiss Federal Railways), running from Biel|Bienne (437 m above sea level) to La Chaux-de-Fonds, serve the valley. • • The Vallon de Saint-Imier is traversed by the river Schüss (French: Suze), which formed two large gorges in the Jura ridges above Biel|Bienne. In the lower part of the valley lie the villages of Cormoret (706 m above sea level) and Courtelary (701 m above sea level) with the «Aérodrome du Jura Sud».
