In the African country of Chad, there is a small tribe known as the Basara Arabs and their women are known for having long natural hair. Even down to their thighs! There secret is a special mixture made of local ingredients that helps their hair to retain moisture which prevents breakage and promotes growth. A few other vloggers from the region have shared online the ingredients list: • The measurements in this list is said to make a small jar of the mixture. • 3 tablespoons of Chéwé/Chébé/Shebe powder • 1 tablespoon of Mahalaba • 1/2 teaspoon of cloves • 1/2 teaspoon of incense resin (Misik) • 1 teaspoon of Humra perfume • 3 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil • • How the hair mixture is made: • Take the shebe seeds, mahalab, and cloves are individually grilled and grounded into a fine powder Using mortar and pestle. Mix the coconut oil and humra perfume together in a separate container and set aside • The grounded ingredients are then combined together with the oils to form a soil like texture. • The Misik is then grounded and added to the “soil-like” mixture. • How to apply this hair mixture? • first step get your hair wet by using regular water and begin applying the chebe powder mix until the hair is fully saturated. Typical, at this point, the basara arabs women Would begin re-braiding the hair and once that is done they would sprinkle some more water on the hair again.
