I show the step by step repair of a side mirror that was knocked off by a minor impact. The vehicle shown is a 2000 Suburban, but the design is similar to many other Chev models. Because of the way the mirror mount was thoughtfully designed to break free, I was able to fix it at no cost with no extra parts. • Some details of how to remove and replace the mirror glass are shown. Note that if your glass is broken but the mirror frame is OK you can replace just the glass. • Note also that GM produced a TSB (05-08-64-007) in 2005 to show how this common warranty problem could be repaired using a specialty device called a J-hook . This hook allows the repair to be done with the wiring in place while the mirror is still mounted on the door. The J-hook is designed to permanently hold the mirror in place. • This is an amateur demonstration published for entertainment purposes only. Auto repair is a potentially dangerous activity, and so before attempting any repair yourself you need to read widely from multiple sources. Any misadventure you encounter if you attempt to repair your vehicle is your responsibility. • • Thunderclap sound used under Creative Commons 3.0 license, done by RHumphries at http://freesound.org/people/RHumphries/
