In this video, I demonstrate how to sharpen a roughing gouge using the Tormek T4 and SVS-50 Multi Jig. I start by securely inserting the roughing gouge into the SVS-50 jig, ensuring precise alignment. To achieve a perfect edge, I mark the entire bevel with a wet marker (included with the T4), which helps identify even contact during sharpening. I carefully index the bevel on the stone by slowly adjusting the tool rest and spinning the wheel until the marker ink is evenly removed across the bevel. Once perfectly aligned, I lock the universal support in place and begin sharpening with full, controlled passes using light pressure until a burr forms on top. • Next, I reverse the universal support and switch to the honing wheel. After applying the stroping compound, I use the same controlled movements to refine the edge further. To finish, I remove the tool from the jig and hand-strop the inside edge for a flawless result.
