This is one of the most ideal ways to teach your dog how to “greet guests”. • It provides them with an alternative behavior to jumping and getting over-excited. • When they have this down, have a guest come over and ignore your dog completely for a few minutes. Then-IF they are calm and you are okay with it, you can release them to calmly go say hi or have your guest calmly say hi to your dog (if your dog wants!). • Make sure your dog actually values attention and isn’t just anxious-these behaviors can appear very similar. You want your dog to always feel safe and able to leave stressful situations in their own home if they want. This is preferred to feeling trapped and reverting to biting! • Go slow with this and give plenty of CALM rewards on the place cot as you gradually build first duration, then distractions. • #dog #dogtraining #dogtrainer #alignedk9
