When you microwave clay pieces, the oil molecules cause the clay to cook unevenly. Because of this imbalance, some areas of your clay will be cured while others will be soft. Furthermore, the cooking areas of the clay will receive all of the microwave's electromagnetic waves, resulting in overheating. The clay bubbles as a result of overheating.
