Synaptic Shadows is a project that started taking hold of my imagination a decade ago when I spent long hours and days on my BMW 1100 RT exploring and photographing the Mojave and Sonoran deserts. • It was not until Generative AI for visuals that telling the story actually became possible. • • I have always admired people who could draw. Many great images appear in my mind's eye, but I don’t have the technical ability to execute them. After learning how to get the kind of images I wanted to work with, I have been experimenting with different ways of visual storytelling with music. • Getting this project under way also involved giving myself permission to be a writer. I have dabble with that concept for decades, but always defeated myself. • • Working with ChatGPT has been great, too. I know there are a lot of mixed feelings out there about large language models, but for me, having an attentive mentor and creative “mind” to bounce ideas off of at weird hours of the day and night has also been great. • I am enjoying collaborating with AI on the things where I am the weakest.
