Trooper Ian Nelson and Joshua Broughton, responded to assist Ashdown PD with a pursuit of a fleeing suspect. A pit maneuver was performed to end the pursuit and a baby was in the vehicle! • Trooper Nelson's Report: • On 10/16/2020, at approximately 07:14 p.m., I, Trooper Ian Nelson with the Arkansas State Police, was attending the Ashdown • vs. Nashville football game with TFC Josh Broughton in Ashdown, Arkansas. While watching the game, a Little River EMS • employee was in direct contact with the Little River Sheriff's Office dispatch, who advised that Ashdown Police Department was • in pursuit on US highway 71, in Ashdown. TFC Broughton left the game and I followed. Due to having a spare patrol vehicle, I • did not have the correct radio frequency of Ashdown Police Department, so I could not hear their radio traffic. • While responding to the pursuit, I followed TFC Broughton, who turned south onto S Constitution Avenue. I noticed a silver • Honda Civic, with the hazard lights on, with several police cars with lights and sirens, pursuing the vehicle at a high rate of • speed. I turned my patrol unit around and joined the pursuit, traveling north bound on S Constitution Avenue with speeds up to • 93 mph. Due to the continuous flow of traffic on the roadway, the Ashdown Police unit not having a PIT policy, and the cars • stopped in both north bound traffic lanes ahead at the intersection of N Constitution and E Main St, I made a split second • decision to use a PIT maneuver to disable the vehicle to preserve human life. • When I exited my patrol vehicle, I drew my service weapon and advised the driver of the silver Honda Civic, later identified as • Alexius Monique Moss, to show me her hands and exit the vehicle. While placing Moss into hand restraints, officers noticed a • one-year old baby in a car seat in the back seat. Little River County EMS arrived on scene and checked on both Moss and her • baby. • Due to Covid-19, and the Little River County Jail being overpopulated, Moss was transported to the Hempstead County Jail and • charged with Felony Fleeing and Endangering The Welfare Of A Minor. The minor was picked up by the grandmother at the • Little River Sheriff's Office. • #arkansas #arkansasstatepolice #chase #police #pursuit #pit • #tvi #dashcam #crash
