This is a close-up of an adult Schistosoma haematobium worm pair, consisting of a female (the thin black worm) and a male (the long light worm). The female worm lodges in the gynecophoric canal of the male and adult pairs mate for life, laying thousands of eggs in the bladders of their hosts, sometimes for many years.
